It had been decided that the Maharaja College Karnataka Sangha would stage my play Yamana Solu (defeat of Yama) at the Gulbarga literary meet. As those were summer holidays, students were all gone home. It had been so planned that each one of them who was supposed to act in the play would go to Gulbarga singly at his convenience but well before the commencement of the meet. But the one picked to play the role of Sathyavana informed at the last moment that he was indisposed and would not be acting. There was not enough time to choose someone else for the role and to train him. Venkannaiah flashed a wire to me. I was roaming in the hills of KuppaLi. I guessed the magnitude of the crisis, and rushed to Gulbarga with my Shivamogga friends.
