Udaya Ravi Prakashana

Sri. Kuvempu named the house he built after he was appointed as lecturer in Kannada in the Maharaja College, Mysore (1936) as Udaya Ravi (the rising sun). Barring a little time he was lecturer in Central College, Bangalore, Sri. Kuvempu lived at Udaya Ravi till his end. Even while he was the Vice Chancellor of Mysore University, he did not move to the official residence in the university campus. He began publishing his works on his own through the publication house Udaya Ravi Prakashana founded by him. Today Udaya Ravi Prakashana, and Sri. Kuvempu's works it published is an inseparable part of history of Kannada literature.

The first work of Sri. Kuvempu, 'Sahithya Prachara' was published from Shivamogga Karnataka Sangha in the year 1930. It was priced at two anna(twelve paise). Then the same Karnataka Sangha published Rakthakshi (Drama) in 1932 and, Panchajanya and Navilu (Poems) in 1936.

After 1936, Sri Kuvempu's close friend Kudali Chidambaram published Sri. Kuvempu's later works from his Kavyalaya Prakashana. Kindari Jogi Mathu Ithara Kavanagalu, Sanyasi Mathu Ithara Kathegalu were published in 1936. A year later Kavyalaya published the novel Kanuru Heggadithi in four parts. Though Sri Kuvempu had, meantime, published a few books himself, their sales were undertaken by Kavyalaya and Rama Mohana and Company, Bangalore.

During 1951 Sri. Kuvempu published the second part of the classic, Sri Ramayana Darshanam from Udaya Ravi Prakashana. All his later works were published under the Udaya Ravi banner. After the demise of Sri. Kuvempu, his son Poorna Chandra Tejasvi and daughter Tarini Chidananda have continued the publication activity of Udaya Ravi and ensured that all works of Sri. Kuvempu are available in the market.
